Empress Classic Blackpool and kit requirements

Written by Leanne (Coach)
Thursday, 25 February 2010

Our next competition after ICC Nationals in March is the Blackpool Empress Classic. This is a one day event and takes place on Sunday May 2nd, (unbelieveably in 9 weeks time) We are taking all our prep and peewee teams as well as mums and junior and senior solos, stunt and some dance. The cost of this event is £20 per cheerleader and £14 for mum squad. Solos are £8. This can be paid as soon as you like (the earlier the better). Spectators are £6 each. If you want me to order your spectators tickets, I have no problem doing this up until March 25th, after that, you're on your own.

Parents have been asking me what the cheerleaders need in terms of kit for competitions and during summer. I can no longer get Matrix shorts in cheap. You can buy them from competitions no problem but for me to buy them in in bulk, just isn't worth it. I do have some lovely little black shorts in the shop though, with dancer written on them. They are £10. They will be ideal for summer.

Preps will need sparkly jazz shoes for competitions from now on. The black dance trainers are fine to wear for training but all preps need these shoes for BLACKPOOL competition. They will be available to order from the shop as of now, priced £18.99. They do not need any other costumes. Any questions see Lea.

Matrix Christmas Show

Thursday, 7 January 2010

Happy New Year to you all.

Matrix spread a little Christmas cheer as they performed in their annual Christmas Show.

Most of the squad were there to show off their latest routines to their family and friends for the last time in 2009.

The squad are now busy in the New Year preparing for their next competition in March and their first show of the year is a charity event in conjunction with Catherine Fraser school of Irish Dance. This show will take place on Friday February 12th at the Civic Hall in Nantwich.

Street Cheer Nationals

Matrix Urban  featured at the Street Cheer Nationals in Stoke last weekend.

Entering the National Crew division at the last minute they quickly pulled together a team of dancers to take part.

The competition was of a good standard with some great "street style" teams there.

Our very own Dance Caoch SJ who choreographed the routine also featured in it and I wanted to show the team in action. Check out the photos :)

Crewe Carnival 2009

Matrix wowwed the crowd at this year's Crewe Carnival.

The squad, which was made up of  cheerleaders who attended our 2009 summer school, pulled out all the stops to put on a great performance despite bad weather and dodgy "extra sound" coming from across the field!

The team had also paraded across the town and chanted their way down West Street accompanied by their new Cheer friend, the "Wulvern Bear" He also supported them whilst they were on the Playing Fields.

Matrix, who have been working hard throughout the summer break on the basic skills of cheerleading, stunt, dance, performed a half hour set which unfortunately had to be cut short due to the rain,

But their performance and effort was excellent and we are really proud of them!! We are proud of you, say we are proud of you.

We will now be working hard Sunday through to Wednesday at our new "shed" and are calling all parents and friends to help. We need as many people as possible to help create the very best studio we can for the squad. Please support us, as your kids will ultimately benefit. Thanks :D

The Shed

Matrix has just secured a place to call our home! Fondly nicknamed ‘The Shed’ it is now a place where all of our classes will be held. The Shed is on Mirion Street on the grounds of the Youth Centre in Crewe. This means we are able to store and display trophies, photos, progress boards, newsletters, and recent information, as well as practising. However, the shed is in need of some TLC! We have been working hard over the last few weeks to apply for funding and grants in order to create a safe and secure place to practice and with the kind help and donations from Wulvern Housing Association and South Cheshire Glass we are on our way!

The Shed needs a ‘make-over’, scrapping paint, sanding, filling gaps and holes and painting, so we are calling all mums, dads and family to lend a hand. Juniors and seniors are also needed to paint tiles. However, it may not be safe for younger children. Any paintbrushes, black, white or teal paint, wood, tools would be really appreciated.
Dates for the Make-over
Sunday 30th August 11-4
Monday 31st August 11-4
Tuesday 1st September 11-4
Wednesday 2nd September 11-4
